The purpose of the Art Minders is to heighten awareness of local and regional artists, and to support the arts by interest, attendance, education, and financial contribution. Those having an interest in any art form are encouraged to participate. Residence at Parkview Hills is not a requirement.
Art Minders was formed in August 2002, by a committed group of Parkview Hills residents. Art Minders encourages emerging and seasoned artists to exhibit their artwork at the Willow Lake Gallery at Parkview Hills, and welcomes various speakers and presenters to share their experiences as artists and artisans.
In addition to monthly exhibitions, the Art Minders arranges trips and biannual spring/holiday bazaars. Proceeds from fundraisers provide financial support for local emerging artists to attend classes at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts, or for groups to buy art supplies, and for special projects; recently, the restoration/re-backing of the H. Lewis Batts Jr. Color Nature Photographs.
The Art Minder’s meetings are usually held in the Willow Lake Club library from 4-5:30 p.m. on the second Friday of each month. Most Artist Receptions are hosted each month on scheduled evenings from 6-8 p.m., and are free and open to the public. It has become a custom for the artist to give a brief talk about 7 p.m. Refreshments include non-alcoholic punch and cookies.
